I started the program with a statement
from Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA 27) on the House floor regarding
the Economic Stabilization Act and alleged threats to members of congress about
Marshall Law if they did not pass the bill, along with clips from an
interview with Naomi Wolf on her book Give Me Liberty in which she declares
that the US underwent a coup on October 1, 2008. I also spun some tunes by acclaimed
singer/songwriter/actress Nellie McKay. Listen to INtro: Part

I
spoke with activist and author Jane Roberts about her incredible
work with Lois Abraham and the organization they started
- 34 Million
Friends (check
out her book at Amazon >>) in conjunction with the United
Nations Population Fund. Jane's book recounts the personal story
of someone who became outraged by the social injustices perpetrated by our government,
in our name, and decided that she could not rely on the government to be just
in the area of a human rights approach to reproductive health and family planning.
Jane's story is about people taking the initiative to help people and to save
the lives of women who are subjected to inhumane treatment. WHile her personal
story is truly an amazing account of how one person (or 34 million people) can
make a measurable difference in the welfare of the lives of others, Jane's book
also offers a practical approach to the establishment of the apparatus that
had to be put in place to accommodate the tremendous response generated by her
impassioned plea as well as a practical approach towards carving ones way
into the main stream media. It is an activists guide of sorts and relates the
inextricably intertwined reality of the empowerment of women on a global scale
to the welfare of the entire human race and the welfare of the planet.
